Spreading Love & Hope...

Hello reader,

Advent is upon us and Christmas is just around the corner. Why don't you resolve to attend mass more faithfully, and to invite others to join us as well!

We maybe a small parish, but we have a big heart! Invite your friends and family to come see a different way to be Catholic. Send this newsletter to your friends and family as well so that they can see what is going on at Saint Francis.

We believe in equality, inclusivity, and love! All are welcome to participate fully in the life of our parish.

If you want to know more about what we stand for, feel free to read our Parish Covenant located at our Saint Francis Covenant Page.

Blessings!

Bishop Greg

Upcoming Mass Schedules

We hope you will join us for Mass every Sunday at 3:00 PM. We are located at 2321 Lumpkin Road in Augusta, GA.

December 9, 2018 - Second Sunday of Advent - 3:00 PM - Lector: Luna Godsey - Mass is offered for the sick of our parish family - This week and next, our Gospel readings invite us to consider John the Baptist and his relationship to Jesus. John the Baptist appears in the tradition of the great prophets, preaching repentance and reform to the people of Israel. To affirm this, Luke quotes at length from the prophet Isaiah. John baptizes for repentance and for forgiveness of sins, preparing the way for God's salvation.

December 16, 2018 - Third Sunday of Advent - 3:00 PM - Lector: Kit Sainte - Mass is offered for Edward Bohr - Potluck after Mass - This Sunday's Gospel continues last week's focus on John the Baptist and his role in preparing the way for Christ. If we were to read Luke's Gospel continuously, we would learn about John the Baptist challenging the crowds who came to him and calling upon them to show evidence of their repentance.

December 23, 2018 - Fourth Sunday of Advent - 3:00 PM - Lector: Deacon Dana Godsey - Mass offered for the growth of our parish family - On this the last Sunday before Christmas, our Gospel reading prepares us to witness Christ's birth by showing us how Jesus was recognized as Israel's long-awaited Messiah even before his birth. The Gospel turns our attention from the ministry of John the Baptist to the events that preceded John the Baptist's birth.

A better version of ourselves

better version
We have a choice every day of our lives. We can either work to become a better version of ourselves, or we can give into the dark corners that lie within each of us. Make no mistake, working to become a better version of ourselves is hard work. But to quote one of my favorite lines from President John F. …

Donations

You might not know this, but here at Saint Francis we do not take up a collection. We believe that when we gather for Mass, we should focus all our attention on the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Stopping to take up a collection diverts our attention from the most important task at hand, spending time with Jesus!

If you would like to donate to our parish, you can do so by leaving a donation in the basket next to the service books in the back of the church or by visiting our website. You can set up reoccurring donations or make a one-time donation at https://saintfrancisoldcatholic.org/support-us/.

As you can see from the link, our site uses state of the art security to protect your financial information from beginning to end.
